Newsletter - Winter Planting

I made two visits to the field last week. It's the last time I’ll visit this year, so I thought I should get some planting in this side of Christmas. First I bought 10 large garlic bulbs from the supermarket; I wanted to get elephant garlic to give me extra large garlic bulbs, since last years bulbs were so small. I planted them in the same place as last year, and then covered it with a good layer of mulch. I then planted some left over onion sets from last year that are starting to sprout, so it had to be plant or throw away.

I also bought 10 little Leylandii hedge plants to go around my trench. The Leylandii supposedly grows very fast and is a soft leaf evergreen, so it’ll hopefully give me some screening soon. If it grows well, I’ll probably buy some more (or make cuttings myself) for internal hedgeing. Finally, I bought a bunch of flower bulbs like tulips, anemones, crocuses, alliums and bluebells. I dotted them all around the trees, hopefully they won’t get dug up by the rabbits, and will bloom in spring. Can’t wait!

The cardigan is growing slow and steady. Taking much longer than I thought, but hoping to plough through it in the next few weeks. I've done the back, one front side, and a bit of one sleeve.

Lastly, I made a knitting needle storage folder the other day. I’ve wanted to sort my knitting needles by size, so I can see more clearly what sizes I have. I turned out pretty well! I slotted some cardboard inside to give it structure and can open like a book. The key is the mm labelling.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
