Project - Planter and Toolbox

Throwing in two side projects, while my tool cupboard is underway. I was going to have a lot of the thin 6mm plywood left over, so while I had it on the table to cut it down, I thought I might as well make some smaller things out of it, and practice some skills e.g. the router.

These boxes did the trick in that they were satisfyingly small enough to complete in a few days. I still have to figure out the joinery somewhat, as the plywood is too thin to use screws onto eachother. I needed a thicker piece of wood to hold each corner together.

While putting together the corners, I did feel the need for some corner clamps. It was quite fiddly to get everything lined up and screwed on correctly without it all falling down.

For the planter I plan to line it with plastic bags and put the soil in there to minimise water damage into the wood. I will also heavily coat the wood in wax and oil. However, I'm sure that there will be water damage over time. I'm not fussed as its all still practice for me. I'm probably learning more by doing smaller managable projects that one monster one.

Final Review

Flimsy plywood, too thin to really make some proper out of. Not particular happy with the result, but worth trying.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
