Newsletter - Moon Calendar and More Paintings

Last week was the final round for painting for now. I did 3 new ones, but only took a picture of two of them before I shipped them off. I think I’ll take a painting break for now, while I find a place to hang these first 10 in the office.

I’ve been knitting a lot, but have suddenly reached the end of the blue yarn for the jumper. Either I’ve misplaced a ball somewhere, or that’s all I had! I’ve barely gotten started on the sleeves, so if I don’t have more of the same yarn, I’m probably going to have to buy something that looks similar, though unlikely I’ll be able to get an exact match. It’s silly that I didn’t plan the right amounts from the beginning, I just assumed it would be enough somehow by roughly looking at it…

So this project is on pause while I find more yarn.

I’ve started a bit of crochet in the meantime. I have some brightly coloured yarn/cord which could work well as a bag of sorts. That’s only just beginning, so not much to show.

I did manage to do a trip to the field… More blackberry pruning. I have this idea to train the vines around a vertical trellis, made by some supports and wire… In my head, this will keep the vines contained to a flat vertical panel, and keep the corridors clear to have easier picking, and easier pruning next year… I’m thinking it’s a genius idea, and hope it works.

I’m still clearing sections of blackberry that are growing amongst the trees, which is long work. I’ve almost made it to the end. Hopefully, by training a trellis this year and maintaining it throughout, I won’t have a 5-day intensive pruning to do next year.

I ordered a bunch of bluebell bulbs, which I planted out. I haven’t seen any of the bulbs come up that I planted a month ago… I see some holes around the field, so I do think the rabbits got to at least some of them… Hoping not all… For these bluebells, I’ve put a mesh cover over the area, roughly. The rabbits could definitely still crawl under the mesh, but maybe these will confuse them a bit? I need a more robust mini wall and mesh system, especially when I start planting veg.

Finally, I’ve been working on the moon calendar I created last year. It’s nearly the new year in my own definition, so I wanted to revamp it. I’ve put it on my website, so you can go to the “Moon Cal” page every day, and it tells you what day it is in terms of my new definitions, the moon phase… with daily prompts to help journal / intention setting for the day. I’m going to try use it as part of my daily journal.

See website here

For reference, the moon calendar follows the moon cycle (starting with the new moon), every 28-29 days. I then created a new month name that ties to the season in the year. e.g. Florilis is a month of blossoms and flowers. Then I’ve come up with themes, prompts, and intentions around the month’s seasons, overlayed with the themes around the day of the week. You can then also take into account the day’s weather and how you’re feeling. Then compile all the information to plan your own day and intentions.

The "new year" starts next week - 17 February - with the new moon, which is the start of "The Dawn".

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
