I have a finished sleeve, finally. This jumper is taking so long since the yarn is so thin. I’m ready for it to be over now, but I still have the second sleeve to do. I ran out of the main colour just before I finished, so I had to dip in the second sleeve’s portion of yarn. So I’m not sure I’ll have enough for the second… It ran out literally on the last row, so let’s see what happens with the next sleeve. I’m going to take a mini break before I start the next sleeve though… and do a small crochet project to change it up a bit.

The silver dress was finished last week after attempting to self-draft it. I still need to improve my construction skills, but it’s a learning step. I’m starting to watch some sewing construction and design tutorials to get a bit better at it. The mermaid dress is also still in progress, the sequins take time and I’m been focusing on knitting instead the last few weeks.

I’ve been going to both the field and the allotment, to get everything back under control. On the field, I’m pulling out all the thistles (in the thousands) and cutting the grass to get a nice clean look for the winter. I’ve done about 1/5 of the planted area so far, and it looks so much neater. So definitely going to continue this. Though I first need to sharpen the mower blades, as it’s taken a beating over the last year.

I also have a plan to make some raised beds in the field. Nearer to the front of the plot where I can keep a better eye on it. It’s going to have some heavy-duty netting around it to keep off the rabbits. My first attempt at a veg bed on the field was a complete fail, so I’m not super confident, but will try. I’d like to grow strawberries, squash, pumpkins, potatoes, onions, asparagus there, stuff that takes a lot of space, and not too fussy.

On the allotment, I finally tackled the brambles at the back of the plot. I uncovered two and a half compost bays made of pallets, two plastic compost bins, a broken garden fork and a hand rake / weeding tool. I also uncovered an entire tree under the brambles; it’s already dead, so just a large trunk that was covered in ivy.

Anyways, it took 2-3 days to clear it, and now it’s looking good. I’m trying to compress the mountain of cut brambles into the compost bins. I counted I have 6 large compost bays and 3 largish plastic compost bins on the plot, and when I finish clearing, they will all be full… Not sure how that’s possible. The bins are mostly full of brambles, so I’m not sure if they’ll decompose very quickly… 

The plot still looks like a dump site still so… work in progress. Next I plan to rebuild the beds properly with the salvaged wood, go to the tip to throw all the rest of the rubbish away, including old wood, plastic, broken glass… Then refill the beds with some new manure and compost. Hopefully then it will look semi-decent, and I can get growing. I’ll probably sow some garlic, and maybe some salad and see how it goes.
