Another pattern by Petite Knit, since her designs have worked out well for me so far. This time, I want to make a jumper out of the sheep wool from my family's sheep in Belgium. The sheep bred are not particularly suited for yarn, they are woodland sheep I believe... But I thought it was be so cool to spin that wool and turn it into a jumper.
I have collected the family sheep wool for the past few years, and spun with it, but so far have only made knitted or crochet soft toys and such, because of the roughness of the wool. But, since doing the zipper sweater a few months ago, and that being quite scratchy yarn, I thought I could probably handle these sheep as well.
The pattern I'm going for is a thicker outdoorsy style and I'll wear long sleeves underneath always so it should be fine. Its a 5/5 level difficulty pattern, with lots of different cables, so might will be tough! I'll spin the yarn as I need. I have 100g to start off with.

Almost eight months later! There was a long pause when I ran out of yarn, I had to wait until June, when the sheep would be shorn again for the year. I managed to make it so that just the second sleeve was with the next year's wool. It's definietely a different sheep for the last sleeve as its much softer and lighter. But that just adds to the character of the jumper.
Overall, its been a great project, the cables turned out really well, the honeycomb pattern on the front and back look good. The zip functions great. It's not the season to wear it right now, but I'm hoping I will get to it in the autumn and winter. Hoping its not going to be too scratchy. I think it will be a good jumper for the field.
My time estimate for this project is around 50 hours of spinning and 50 hours of knitting. 100 hour total, roughly, though it might be more.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.
Some facts about me:
- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.
- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.
- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.
