I was in York over Easter weekend, seeing the town and doing some hikes. Lovely trip. I went looking for some local wool, since the Yorkshire sheep are so popular for yarn, but I think it’s all so commercialised now and exported everywhere that there aren’t many local yarn sellers.
The crochet friends are complete. A few more animals have been added to the collection, and I’ve used up as much of the cotton yarn from Mexico as I could. I had to be a bit creative with the colours in the end, but it’s all worked out very well. Love the little collection.
Leftover cotton yarn
I’m ready to go back to knitting, which I prefer as it’s easier to do without looking and a bit less strenuous. I ordered a set of lambswool while I was in York, inspired by the Yorkshire Dales. I’ve planned a colourwork jumper with it.
I still have the blue acrylic jumper in progress, which I need to find a matching yarn, to finish off the sleeves. And I have a stash of merino wool in different colours for a project I gave up on - patterned squares, where I didn’t like how the squares needed to be sewn together. Merino just isn’t that useful as anything other than a warm garment, so I’ve finally found a jumper pattern to follow for the shape, and then I’ll make up the colour patterns as I go. Hopefully this idea will work, and I can finally use up the yarn.

That’s 3 knitting projects in the lineup. I prefer to be stashless with my yarn, so any unfinished / failed projects need to be reworked and used up.
This week, I pruned a bit of my sage plant in the garden and out of it made a few sage bundles. They’ll now dry for a few weeks, and then they can be used to burn as an incense or smudge stick. I’ve never tried it before, and it’s always intrigued me.
Finally, in the field, there is steady progress. Tinkering with getting a water channel to work with gravity. I need to work a bit more on the slope to keep the water current going. It will take a few days of experimenting before I (hopefully) manage to get it working. The vision is to establish mini ponds all the way down the field that are connected with little canals, which I can fill up from the borehole pump. I’m trying not to use plastic in the canals, but it may be necessary to prevent seepage and erosion. To be continued…
I bought some metal stakes to continue my blackberry support system. The plants are starting to grow now so let's see if I can weave them around the wires and keep it tidy.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.
Some facts about me:
- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.
- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.
- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.
