Wow it’s been a month since my last update. I’ve been away for three weeks so that adds up. I was only able to work on the jumper, which is coming along. I’m hoping it’s going to grow significantly during the block wash because it’s currently almost child sized. I’m using the exact yarn and needles from the pattern so hopefully it’s all part of the process… I also know I’m not a tight knitter, so I generally don’t knit smaller than the average person. Anyway let’s hope.
It’s been a disaster year in the garden. Pretty much everything I grew from seed, except the tomatoes has died. All the squash plants and bean plants that I put in the field disappeared, I’m guessing rabbits and birds. Field vegetables were probably a bad idea to begin with; anything I plant there needs to be big enough to withstand the elements.
I then bought a second lot of chilli and cucumber plant starters for the garden as replacements, but they were all eaten again, even after I built individual cage and fabric protectors. It’s all gone and now it’s a bit late to restart…

The good news is I have identified the issue, not mice like I originally thought, but slugs. And because I’ve allowed them free rein they’ve multiplied in the hundreds. I’m finally doing something about it and I put down some yeast traps and am starting to handpick them off the lawn. I think I’ve easily caught over 200 in two days. So… yeah. I’m going to buy seedlings one more time if the garden centre still has them and do one last try.
I need to remember this for next year because it’s happened other years, just not to this extent, and I’ve never been committed to catching them.

I don’t have any other updates.. I’m settling back home, I’ve got some sewing projects planned, finishing off the jumper, maintaining the existing trees in the field, and practice some more wood carving.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.
Some facts about me:
- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.
- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.
- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.
