Newsletter - A Splash of Paint

This week, I was away for work for most of it, so I focused on travel knitting the blue jumper I’ve started. It’s going well; the pattern says to do front and back panels, but I’m doing both sections in the round, so there are no seams down the middle. I did have to restart at some point when I realised it was way too big. I didn’t do a gauge swatch for the ribbing, as it turned out to be a very different equation from the main stockinette swatch. I’ve severely had to reduce the number of stitches on the ribbing. I think the yarn is much thicker than what is in the pattern. Anyways, good progress made.

I did one field trip this week, where I focused on pruning the blackberries. I got a lot done, but still a lot left. This is year two of pruning blackberries, and it’s going much smoother this year, since I already have the tactics down, and know what to do with all the offcuts. I also put cardboard and mulch down in the area behind the storage boxes; it makes it so much neater, yay.

Then finally, on the weekend, I decided a bit spur of the moment that I wanted to paint some canvases to hang in an office building at work. The building could do with a hundred paintings, so I thought, why not try to make a few myself! I smashed out three paintings over the weekend. I’m going for pops of colour, not too difficult to paint, and modern. Quite pleased with how it’s going. I need to buy some more canvases now so I can keep going!

Not much else to say… In the background, I’m also reworking my ‘earth calendar’ I created last year, which follows the moon cycles instead of our normal months. The ‘new year’ will start end of Feb / March, so I want to get it done by then. I’m trying to put together a sort of guide to living with the seasons and cycles, and giving daily journal prompts. It’s a work in progress, so I won’t share anything until it’s done!

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
