Scotty Sweater

This is the second in a three part series of Nordic inspired sweaters, the first one was the Rikke sweater. All jumpers are Danish designers and Nordic wool. This one is made with one strand of 50% Gotland and 50% Merino wool, and one strand of kid silk. The pattern is by petite knit, and here is the pattern picture.

I'm going to knit and XS since I like a smaller fit.

Project has started well. Stockinette is knitting up relatively quick. Am on the body section now. After this the neck collar and the two sleeves. I'm holding one strand of the Gotland yarn, and one strand of alpaca silk. The fabric was thinner that I expected it to be, until I realised that I had actually planned to hold two strands of alpaca silk. I'd bought 8 balls of silk and 4 of gotland, each ball being around the same meterage.

Very silly... So I had to decide to keep going or unravel everything and start from scratch with two silk strands... I decided to keep going. I knitted a small swatch of the double strand silk, and it did look thicker. I'm not convinced it's worth redoing it for the thickness though... Even though I bought the 4 extra balls. I'd already talked myself into having a thinner jumper, so mentally commited to that.

Have I done the right move? I don't know. I'll have the silk yarn leftover, so I'll consider it for something else.

Finished the body with the 7cm bottom rib and the collar, which is again a rib folded over. I am liking it so far, have been knitted a lot over the weekend. Its a bit smaller than I would want for the final fit, so I'll probably stretch it out a bit during blocking, hopefully ending up exactly where I want it.

It's still a quick easy knit so far. Next up are the sleeves, which being stockinette again should fly by.

One full sleeve done and started on the second one. It's all going to plan so not much to say about it. Hoping to finish this in the next few days. I'll have 4 balls of kidsilk left, so will have to come up with a use for it in another project.

It's all done! The second sleeve worked up smoothly. This is probably about as fast as I can knit a jumper - total of 18 days. A plain stockinette knit. It's washed and blocked as well. Am happy with how it turned out. The pattern puts embroidery details in at the end, the straight lines vertically and horizontally, but I think I'm not going to do that for now, I prefer the plain look. I can add in some at some point if I want.

I like the fit, not too loose. The sleeves do this bell shape at the end, which is by design. I'm not sure if I'm the biggest fan of it. I like the folded over collar. One thing I still need to improve with more of my jumpers is the cast on / bind off is never stretchy enough. You always feels the stretch limit when you put it on a off. I mean, there is enough stretch to put on and off, but with commerical jumpers you never get this limit. Even binding off really loosely still results in a limit. Maybe only knitters will get this explanation... anyway the answer lies somewhere in a different method.

And that's all I have to say about that!

Notes

Yarn:
Blenda Gotland
Colour: Soft Rose
50% Gotland wool, 50% Merino
50g
Babysilk Lace
Color: 2982
70% Alpaca, 30% Silk
25g
- Needles: Adjusted pattern from 5mm main and 4.5mm ribber to 4.5mm main and 4mm ribbing.
- Size: XS
Adjustments
Instead of one by one rib, I did two by two rib. Just my preference.
For the sleeves, i didn't have the right size DPNs for the cuffs, so I used what I had - 3.25mm (smaller size) and did fewer reduction in the stitches. In last row pre cuff, instead of K2TOG all the way around to 30 stitiches, I K2TOG then K2, repeat.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
